Jessica Simpson is looking toward the future after enduring "suffocating" issues within her marriage to Eric Johnson.
The "Irresistible" singer announced earlier this week that she and Johnson had separated after 10 years of marriage, and according to an insider speaking to People, the end of former couple's marriage came after their differences became too much.
"Their marital issues have felt suffocating for a while," the source said. "She needs to move on for her own well-being."
Though Simpson only recently announced their split, she and Johnson had reportedly been "separated for a while." Despite the ending of her marriage, Simpson is said to be "doing OK" as she focuses on her children and anticipates her long-awaited return to music.
On Monday (January 13), Simpson shared a statement to People confirming that she and Johnson had separated and were "navigating a painful situation" as they continued to parent their three children: daughters Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.
"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," she said. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."
